How much does it cost to fax?

At the places we checked in October 2026, a fax to a U.S. number cost from nothing to $5.00 for the first page. FaxZero (up to 3 pages) and some libraries were free. How much it costs to fax depends on the location, and the $5.00 is from the undated price sheet of The UPS Store #6086 in Austin, Texas.

In between, Palm Beach County's library lists $1.75 for the first page, and two fax websites charge a flat $2.75 to $3.29 per fax. Fax apps differ. The one we looked at, FAX from iPhone by Municorn, sells subscriptions, and FaxFair charges per fax.

Every price below comes from the provider's own website or App Store listing, read on October 31, 2026, and FaxFair's from our price list of November 1, 2026. FedEx Office says prices vary by store, and The UPS Store says they may vary by location. So a store or library price here is that one location's price, not the whole chain's.

Prices side by side

Prices as listed by each provider, read October 31, 2026 (FaxFair's from our price list of November 1, 2026). Totals are for a fax to a U.S. number, without a cover sheet.

Stores: prices vary by location

FedEx Office

FedEx Office says prices vary by store. You can send a fax yourself at a self-service copier or ask a team member at the counter. FedEx says it pre-authorizes your payment based on the number of pages you plan to fax.

Two FedEx Office location pages, one on the Boston University campus and one in College Station, Texas, give starting prices. As of October 2026, both say pricing starts at $2.19 for a local fax, $2.49 for a domestic fax and $1.59 to receive one. The pages don't say what counts as a local or a domestic fax, or what each extra page costs. Ask for the total for your number and page count before you send.

The UPS Store

The UPS Store says its locations are independently owned and operated by franchisees, although one or more may be company-owned. It also says prices may vary by location. One store that posts its prices is The UPS Store #6086, the Print & Business Center at the Hilton Austin in Texas.

As of October 2026, its price sheet listed $5.00 for the first page of a domestic fax and $1.00 for each extra page. An international fax was $10.00 for the first page and $1.00 for each extra page, and receiving a fax cost $1.00 a page. The sheet has no date on it, so call to confirm.

Staples

Staples lists faxing in the business center on its printing page, but we couldn't find a fax price on any Staples page we read. As of November 2026, the Allen, Texas store page lists Faxing Services among its in-store services, with no price. Call your store to ask what it charges.

Office Depot

Office Depot says you can scan and fax documents at its self-service printers in store. Its page doesn't list a fax price, so ask the store.

Libraries: free at some, by the page at others

Each library sets its own rules. King County Library System in Washington says all its libraries have faxing when they're open. You can send a fax free there at its Library Document Stations.

Palm Beach County Library System in Florida charges by the page. As of October 2026, it lists $1.75 for the first page of a fax to the U.S. and $1.00 for each extra page. To other countries it's $3.95 for the first page and $3.45 for each extra page, and the library sends faxes but doesn't receive them.

If a free option doesn't fit, compare by page count. One page costs $1.75 and two pages cost $2.75 at Palm Beach County. That's no more than a single fax on FaxZero's paid option or FaxItOnce. From three pages on, the flat price on those two websites costs less.

Fax websites: free for short faxes, a flat price for long ones

FaxZero sends free faxes to the U.S. and Canada, up to 3 pages plus a cover page and up to 5 faxes a day. It puts its branding on the free cover page. For longer faxes it charges $3.29 per fax for up to 25 pages, paid with PayPal, as of October 2026.

As of October 2026, FaxItOnce charges $2.75 per fax for up to 45 pages. It says your credit is used only when the fax is delivered. It takes only PDF files, so paper pages need scanning first.

This website sends faxes as well. As of November 2026, a fax from faxfair.com costs $2.49 for up to 40 pages and $6.99 for 41 to 100 pages. The cover sheet is free and doesn't count as a page. We only charge your card when the fax is delivered. If the fax fails, we cancel the payment and you aren't charged.

Fax apps: per fax or by subscription

Some fax apps sell unlimited plans instead of single faxes. One example is FAX from iPhone: Send Doc App, by Municorn. As of October 2026, the version notes in its App Store listing show $9.99 a week, $29.99 a month and $249.99 a year. Those plans cover unlimited sending and receiving, and the notes are dated Sep 29 with no year shown.

The listing also shows in-app items labeled "Unlimited Faxes (1 week)" at $3.99, $5.99 and $7.99. It doesn't say whether they include receiving or any limits, and other entries go up to $29.99 with no period stated. Apple says auto-renewing App Store subscriptions renew until you cancel.

Our guide to free fax apps for iPhone compares what eight apps charge after the free part and shows how to cancel a trial.

If you only need to send, a plan pays off only when you send enough faxes to beat the per-fax price before it renews. On FaxItOnce and FaxZero, a fax costs $2.75 to $3.29. A one-week plan at $3.99 to $9.99 costs less from 2 to 4 faxes that week, depending on its price, if it covers them all. A $29.99 month costs less once you send 10 or 11 faxes. If you also need to receive faxes, a plan that includes receiving, like this one, can make sense.

On October 30, 2026, we read the visible App Store reviews of the fax apps we compete with. Subscriptions that renew were a common complaint in the reviews we read, and so were failed faxes that still used up credit.

FaxFair, our iPhone app, charges per fax, and as of November 2026 your first fax is free, once per iPhone. After that, 1 fax costs $2.49, 3 faxes cost $5.99 and 10 faxes cost $14.99, and Apple handles the payment. One fax covers any length up to 40 pages, including the cover page, which is free. There's no subscription, and the faxes you buy don't expire. A fax is used only when it's delivered, so a fax that fails costs nothing.

The app sends to fax numbers in the U.S. and Canada. To receive faxes, you can buy a U.S. fax number for 7 days ($4.99), 30 days ($9.99) or 1 year ($59.99) as of November 2026. It doesn't renew. The app has a scanner built in, so you point your iPhone camera at each page and don't need a computer or a fax machine.

Which option costs least

It depends on your fax. At the prices on this page:

To send a fax today without a trip to the store, use this website. As of November 2026, a fax of up to 40 pages costs $2.49, to any fax number in the US or Canada. If your pages are still on paper, the FaxFair iPhone app scans them with the camera instead.
